Estate Planning and Wills

At Peters and Krown, we specialize in estate planning, and pride ourselves in our knowledge of this complex area of the law and in providing our clients with effective and comprehensive plans, all in a friendly and compassionate atmosphere. We take the time to get to know our clients and their needs, and view estate planning as an on-going relationship that continues long after the documents are signed. Laws change, and our clients' needs change over their lifetime. We will be there to address your ongoing needs and make adjustments to your plan as needed. Our number one goal is your peace of mind.

A well crafted estate plan allows you to control how your property and assets are distributed upon your passing, as well as the ability to specify the person who will be responsible for the administration of your estate. If you have minor children, you can appoint a guardian to care for them and avoid costly and contentious court proceedings. An estate plan can reduce the costs and complications of estate administration, maximize tax savings, avoid litigation, and ultimately reduce the burden on the family and loved ones you leave behind.

Estate planning is not just for those who have reached their golden years or own extensive assets. Anyone who owns property, has a bank account, or has minor children should have an estate plan crafted by a knowledgable estate planning attorney. Without the proper documents in place the disposition of your property and assets is left up to state statutes, leaving you and your family with little to no control over who gets what, as well as increased legal costs.

Documents like Durable Powers of Attorney and Advance Directives are important documents that every adult should have prepared. Should something happen to you without these documents in place, your loved ones could be stuck in lengthy and costly court proceedings to secure a guardianship or conservatorship to handle your affairs and provide for your basic needs. Proper planning can prevent this, and protect you and your family from the unpredictability of life.
